The police examiner will start driving test by asking student to check car’s technical features. Here can you see what you have to learn by heart before driving test.
The steering system must function easily safely and quickly. There must be significant slack in the steering system as a whole or in its parts.
Newer cars may not have any free play in their steering system. This means that the wheels must immediately follow the steering wheel movement.
For the control of the steering, the car must be started. In neutral and the handbrake make you check out of the car, with the front door open, so you can turn the steering wheel and watch your left front tire. Turn the steering wheel to the left and look for the left front wheel moves in the same direction as the steering wheel. To check the backlash gearing on the right front wheel, turn the steering wheel to the right, and the police examiner can see that the right front wheel moves. Small short turn of the steering wheel, so you can follow the wheels.
The service brake shall be functional on all wheels. It must be effective, fast and safe at all speeds and loads.
The parking brake must be able to keep the car stopped on a sloping road 18%. The emergency brake (parking brake or other circuit in a two circuit brake system) must be able to slow the car sufficiently safe if service brake suddenly stop working.
When pedaling hard on the pedal the driver must not put one foot right down on the brake pedal. It can only be violated halfway. The brake lining can not be smooth. There must be less than 1 cm clearance.
The brake pedal must not sag when held depressed.
Vacuum amplifier (or servo) must be controlled by you with the engine off, and while you press 4-6 times on the brake pedal and at the last press, you hold the brake pedal down.
Then start the engine. The brake pedal must then sink a little bit.
The brake fluid reservoir must be filled adequately, between min. and max. mark.
The service brake shall be functional on all wheels. It must be effective, fast and safe at all speeds and loads.
The low beam shall not dazzle. It must must enlighten road in front of the car min. 30 m. They must be asymmetrical and have a fall of 1% per meter.
The high beam must be able to enlighten at least 100 meters road in front of car.
There is a control light on the instrument panel, which glows blue when the high beam is on.
Position light must be visible 300 meters away, the parking lights can be used as daytime driving lights.
The backlight must be red and visible min. 300 meters away.
Stop lights must be red, and light stronger than backlights. During the control you can ask the police examiner to step on the brakepedal, so you can see the stop lights work. On newer cars, there must be three stop lights.
Indicators should light flashing yellow or orange light, clearly visible in sunlight. There must be two indicators at the front of the car, one on each side and two at the back of the car.
The warning lights shall be able to turn on all the lights at the same time.
License plate lights shall be white light that can enlighten the rear registration plate and must be visible min. 20 meters away.
The horn must have a clear, steady tone. When checking, press the horn and listen.
The car must be equipped with two reflexes behind, these should be red and must not be triangular.
Exhaust fumes must be invisible. When the engine is cold, smoke may however be white (steam). For control, you can start the engine and go on to the exhaust pipe and see.
In neutral speed motor slowly up. Noise must steadily increase relative to the pressure on the accelerator.
The engine must be clean and neat, and not covered in leaking oil.
When the engine is speeded up, the noise must come from the engine.
If the noise is coming from underneath the car's exhaust system leaks.
Feel gently for. Beware, the exhaust pipe is dirty and can be fire-hot.
Put on gloves. If possible use the sole of your shoe to control if the exhaust pipe sits properly.
Engine oil should be filled in sufficient quantity. It is measured on the dipstick. Pull the dipstick and wipe it simultaneously with paper. Insert fully in place and pull it up again. The oil level should be within the min and max mark on the dipstick. Is there is not enough engine oil the warning light for engine oil will turn on.
Coolant must be filled in sufficient quantity rated by instructions in the manual and not under minimum mark.
If there are any errors in the coolant the warning light for the coolant will turn on.
The shock absorbers must be active on all wheels. That is the case if the car immediately calms down after pressing the reels. Open out to the engine compartment and press down in the frame, then you affect the shock absorber immediately above each wheel, it must now calm down immediately after heavy exposure. The back of the luggage compartment can be opened and pressed in each corner of the opening.
