Get a handle on the process, requirements, and what the examiner focuses on. Short and to the point, so you can deliver safe, confident driving on the day.
The driving test is the final step: When your driving lessons are completed and the theory passed, it is about demonstrating safe, independent driving. At Ascot, we make it clear and motivating: we prepare you purposefully in both theory and practice, continuously assess whether you are ready, and provide extra lessons if you want more experience. The result? A strong experience on the day – and a high pass rate among our students.
The driving examiner will see that you can drive safely and independently. Small mistakes happen to everyone – what matters is that you have an overview, show consideration, and follow the rules. Drive as you have learned in the lessons: calmly, clearly, and predictably.
The content is typically: starting and stopping, mirror and blind spot checks, correct lane positioning, adjusting speed to conditions, right of way and intersections, roundabouts, lane changes, possibly motorway/motor traffic road, as well as parking/stopping and simple maneuvers (e.g., reversing or turning). Show that you read the traffic and make safe choices.
Look far ahead – plan well in advance.
Mirror – signal – shoulder check – every time.
Keep a good distance and drive smoothly on the gas.
Adjust your speed to the road, weather, and traffic.
Be clear at yield signs: look, roll, drive.
Choose safety – no rush, no chances.
No questions are too small – or too big. Contact us, and we will find the answers together.
What does the practical driving test cost? In short: You pay a test fee to the state of 1,450 kr. Additionally, there is usually a rental fee for the school car of 950 kr.
At Ascot, the rental of the school car is included in our packages for your first driving test – so on the first attempt, your only extra cost is typically the test fee of 1,450 kr.
If you need to retake the test, a new test fee (1,450 kr.) as well as rental of the school car (950 kr.) will be added. We help with planning and extra training so you feel ready.

Safety first: overview, consideration, and legal driving. You score points by planning ahead, choosing safe solutions, using mirror?blink?shoulder check, maintaining appropriate speed and good distance – and calmly explaining if you choose to deviate from a maneuver for safety reasons.
Typically starting and stopping, intersections and yielding, roundabouts, lane changes, parking/stopping, and a simple maneuver such as reversing or turning around. You may also encounter stretches with higher speeds if it makes sense.
Yes – if you are in doubt about an instruction, ask. It shows good judgment to make sure you have understood the route before performing a maneuver.
Small mistakes happen. Correct calmly and move on. It is your consistent decisions over time that determine the assessment – not isolated trifles.
Only if you are asked to. But a brief explanation can be fine if you choose an alternative solution for safety reasons (e.g., waiting a bit longer because the conditions are unclear).
Errors that can endanger others: overlooked right of way, red light, dangerous overtaking, excessive speed in the situation, or lack of reaction to clear risks. Consistently unsafe behavior can also result in failure.
